Incidental finding (on imaging)

What it is

An incidental finding is a Chiari malformation — most often type I — discovered by chance on imaging performed for an unrelated reason (such as after a head injury, or for headaches found to be of another cause). Incidental Chiari I is common and often causes no symptoms.
