Frozen section (intraoperative)

What it is

A frozen section is a rapid examination of a tumor tissue sample performed during surgery. The tissue is quickly frozen, sliced, and examined under the microscope within minutes, giving the surgeon preliminary information to guide the operation while it is underway.
