What it is

The valve pressure setting is the level at which a shunt valve allows CSF to drain — for example, described as low, medium, or high pressure. It is chosen and, for programmable valves, adjusted to control how much fluid the shunt drains.

The goal of the setting is to drain enough CSF to control pressure and symptoms while avoiding draining too much (overdrainage) or too little (underdrainage).
