Ventricular system
The ventricular system is the connected network of fluid-filled cavities within the brain that produce and circulate cerebrospinal fluid.

What it is
The ventricular system is the interconnected set of cavities inside the brain — the two lateral ventricles, the third ventricle, and the fourth ventricle — through which CSF is produced and flows. The cavities are linked by narrow channels.
Understanding Ventricular system
CSF is produced largely within the ventricles by the choroid plexus, then flows in sequence: from the lateral ventricles through the foramina of Monro to the third ventricle, through the cerebral aqueduct to the fourth ventricle, and out into the spaces around the brain. Because the system is a connected pathway with narrow points, a blockage anywhere along it causes fluid to back up and the ventricles upstream to enlarge — the basis of obstructive hydrocephalus. Enlargement of the ventricles is the hallmark imaging finding in hydrocephalus.
