For babies, one of the most useful tools for checking the brain is the cranial ultrasound — a safe, gentle, radiation-free scan that's possible specifically because of a baby's anatomy. If your baby needs this test, knowing what it is and why it's used can be reassuring.
What cranial ultrasound is A cranial (or "head") ultrasound uses sound waves — the same technology as the ultrasound used during pregnancy — to create images of the brain.
